Melbourne Christmas 2014 Year in Travel

2014 – My Year in Travel

My Year in Travel

2014 has been a really exciting year in travel for me. I’ve explored several new places, ticked off some big bucket list items and there’s more fun plans coming next year!

My favourite experience of 2014

This is an easy one! My epic journey to Nepal to do the Everest Base Camp trek was such an unforgettable trip. I battled a lot of personal demons along the way, and there were many times that I almost gave up, but seeing the sun rise over Everest was definitely one of the most incredible moments of my life. Along with that I’ve made some great Nepali friends – our guide and porter still keep in touch regularly on Facebook. I still have plenty more stories to tell from my Everest Base Camp trek, so stay tuned to the blog next year!

New countries I visited in 2014

I visited Nepal for the first time with the main goal of doing the Everest Base Camp trek, but fell in love with Kathmandu as well as the people of Nepal. I’ve definitely only scratched the surface of what Nepal has to offer and would love to go back and explore more.

2014 also marked my first visit to the Philippines. The island of Boracay, although touristy, charmed me with its stunning sunsets and white sand beaches. I was not expecting to like Manila, but was pleasantly surprised with what it had to offer. We only had a short time in the Philippines and I’d love to get back and explore some more of those 7,107 islands!

Bucket list items completed

While I don’t have an official “bucket list”, I have an ever growing list of stuff that I really want to do at some stage. I managed to achieve 2 of these this year and they absolutely lived up to my expectations!

Scuba diving as something I had been wanting to try for quite some time and I finally booked in a discovery dive when we visited Krabi earlier this year. While I did struggle a little, I’m keen to try it again and hopefully get my PADI someday soon.

Completing the Everest Base Camp trek was of course the other big one, every day brought a new challenge and some new amazing scenery. Check out my stories from the trek so far here.

What’s on for 2015

I already have my first trip planned for 2015 and I’ll be visiting an old favourite and exploring a new country as well! In April I’m off to Thailand with my family to celebrate Dad’s 60th birthday, and then after that Ash and I are heading over to Myanmar. I’m super excited to check out what Myanmar has to offer and share my stories with you guys!

I hope you all have a fantastic holiday season, and wish you all many happy travels for 2015. Thanks so much for being a reader of my blog this year, I appreciate every single comment, email, share and like that I get. You guys are the best!

What was your favourite travel experience of 2014 and where are you planning to visit in 2015?

  1. It sounds like you had a 2014 to remember. Everest Base Camp is certainly one of those life time moments. So many people aspire to do it now, with a picture like you’ve shown above I can see why 🙂

As for Scuba Diving, like you I’d tried a couple of intro dives. I was then determined to do my PADI and thankfully got the chance in 2008. They then immediately sold me on the advanced course which included night swimming with sharks!!
